3 TRICKS FOR PLAYING
WITHOUT READING THE RULES
Author: Emily Bradshaw - October 2019
Despite the excitement of playing a new game, understanding the rules, the mechanics, and the flow of gameplay can be overwhelming. And while rulebooks are a great resource, sometimes they can leave new players feeling confused and even a little frustrated.
Fear not! We’ve come up with some great resources for when you’re looking to jump into the world of a new game, without experiencing information overload:
1 . Game cafés and pubs
Not only provide access to a wide selection of titles to sample, they also offer hands-on demonstrations by knowledgeable staff. And if you’re looking to get out and socialize, they are great places to meet other tabletop game fans.
2 . Toy and hobby shops
Most toy and hobby shops across the country provide demonstrations of their bestselling titles. In fact, they often organize special gaming evenings facilitated by game enthusiasts.
YouTube is a goldmine if you’re looking for a review of that game you’ve been dying to purchase, or for that game you’ve already purchased but whose rules have left you scratching your head in confusion. Some great resources include: Asmodee Live, Watch it Played, Shut Up & Sit Down, The Dice Tower, and many more!
